Game Trader World Features

Game Trader World has tons of features and we're always working on new ones. This is a list of some of our biggest features to date.

Community
  • Your Profile

Your Game Trader World account, identified by your Username, gives you a profile that makes up your Game Trader World identity. When you post messages, review games, or post listings, your Profile Card is displayed. It shows your Username, picture, rank, rating and awards. Clicking on the Username or picture takes you to the Profile Page, where you can view the user's active listings, game collection, wishlist, friends, user reviews and has links to their posts, reviews and game ratings. When you view your own profile, you can manage your listings, games collection, wishlist, and friends list.

  • Customize

To make Game Trader World a more personal experience, you can customize your user picture, change the way that the site looks (theme) and put a personal message after all of your posts (signature). All of these options are available on the Customize Page, accessible from your profile or Account Settings.

You can now customize your homepage by adding and arranging modules. Start with the default modules, or add only the ones that you want. Change the colors, position and layout to create a homepage that suites you.

  • Friends

If you listed a member as your referral, a friend request has already been sent to that user. Once they accept it, they will appear in your friends list on your Profile Page and you will appear in theirs. When you find other users that you want to be friends with, you can send a Friend Request to them by clicking the 'Send Friend Request' button on their Profile Page. Making friends is a great way to identify users that you trust and to help build your reputation.

  • Xbox LIVE Link

If you are an Xbox LIVE member (silver or gold) you can link your Gamertag to your Game Trader World account. Once linked, your Gamercard will be displayed on your Profile Page and your Gamertag will appear on your Profile Card. Linking your Gamertag is a great way to build on your established reputation. Find your Xbox LIVE friends in the Member Directory by searching for their Gamertag and trade with gamers that you already know!

  • Community Points

Community Points are awarded for positive interaction with Game Trader World. Rating games, writing game reviews, posting on the forum and voting in polls are just a few of the ways that you can earn Community Points (view them all here). Earning them will help to increase your rank and improve your standings on the leaderboards. If you are in the Top 10 for the month, your Username will be displayed on the homepage, which is a great way to give your game listings more attention.

  • Games Collection & Wishlist

On your Profile Page, your Games Collection and Wishlist are displayed. They give other users an idea of what games you are in to, and what kind of trade you might be able to make. To add games to your collection, simply find them using the Game Browser and click the 'Add to Collection' (or Wishlist) button. Edit the your collection and wishlist at any time from your Profile Page. Games in your collection can even be marked as 'Willing to Trade', which enables you to narrow search results to display only listings requesting games that you want to get rid of. NOTE: Marking a game 'Willing to Trade' is not the same as listing the game, as you do not choose what you want in exchange and will not receive offers.

  • Forums

Use the forums to chat about your favorite games and systems, get gaming tips and meet new users. Each post can be rated once by each member, with either a Thumbs Up or a Thumbs Down. Posts with more Thumbs Up, turn green, while posts with more Thumbs Down turn red. In order to increase your rank, you must have a certain ratio of Thumbs Up to Thumbs Down. For example, to move from newbie to novice, you must have at least 50% (one thumb up for each thumb down). This helps encourage members to make good posts. The last post that you made is displayed on your Profile Page as well as a link to view all of your posts. Reading what other users have written on the forums is a good way to get to know them.

  • Tagged Threads

Threads in the Forums that you create or reply to are automatically 'tagged'. The 'Tagged Threads' link in your menu will indicate if unread responses have been made. Clicking that link will bring you to a index of all your tagged threads. You can tag a thread without replying by clicking the 'Tag Thread' button at the top of the thread. This is an easy way to stay up to date with topics that you are interested in.

  • Message Center

The Message Center is where you can read and send Private Messages to other users, view Friend Requests and read System Messages. The message system works similar to Gmail, where conversations a grouped together for easy viewing. Unless you unchecked the box during sign up, you will receive an email at your confirmed email address when you get a new message. This option can be changed from the Email Preferences Page at any time.

Listings
  • Game Browser

The Game Browser is an easy way to find games in our database. Start by clicking on the image of the system and then view games by first letter or genre. You can also view all games on that system or just those with active listings. If you know what game you are looking for, you can search for it using the 'Search Games' box at the top of every page. Clicking on a game's name or box will show the game's details, web reviews and user reviews. You can add the game to your collection or wishlist, view active listings, read or create a forum for the game, find out what you could get for the game, set an alert to tell you when that game is listed (meeting your criteria), or list your copy of the game.

  • Add Games

We are always adding new games to our database, but there are thousands of games out there and we need your help. If you can't find a game that you're looking for, you can Add it. Please provide all of the required data about the game. This information can be found easily on the web. Once you submit the information, one of our administrators will review it. If it is approved, the game will be added to our database and your account will be rewarded with 50 Community Points.

  • List a Game

Listing a Game on our site is Free and Easy to do. First, find a game in our database that you have and want to trade or sell for credits. Tell us the edition and condition of the game, if you are going to include the box and manual and anything else that may have come with the game. Select the shipping method that you want to use (the sender of the game always pays the shipping). You can choose to allow users to offer you credits for your game and/or another game. If you are interested in another game, choose the game(s) that you would like and the edition, condition, box and manual. You can ask for points with the game (if it is less valuable that the one that you have) or offer points (if it is more valuable that the one that you have). Choose the time in which you will respond to offers and list your game. All of your listings can be viewed in My Listings and can be frozen if you are going away.

  • What Can I Get For?

Have a game that you finished, but don't know what you want for it? You can view all listings that indicate that they want your game in exchange.

  • Filter Listings

To find exactly what you want faster, game listings can be filtered based on: price (credits wanted), games wanted (in your collection or games marked 'willing to trade'), response time, condition, edition (when multiple), if the box or manual is desired and by the user type of the person listing the game.

  • Alerts

If you can't find a listing for the game that you want, you can sent an alert. Choose your alert conditions using the same criteria as the 'Filter Listings' option. When the listing that you want is added, you can have a Private Message, email or both sent to inform you.

Trading
  • Offers

When you find a game listing for a game that you want, you make an offer to that user. Choose the game (or points) that you are willing to send in exchange. The other user must respond to your offer within the Response Time indicated (if they do not, the listing will be frozen and the offer will be invalid). The My Offers section, under the Listings menu, shows the status of all incoming and outgoing offers.

  • Payments

If a user accepts offer that you make, you will be required to pay any fees (including credits owned to the user and the 99¢ trading fee). The trading fee can be paid for with 99 credits or a stored trade. Stored trades can be acquired by earning Free Trades or by purchasing trades in bulk (6 trades for $4.95 or 13 trades for $9.90). If you need to add credits to your account or wish to purchase bulk trades, we use PayPal as our method of collecting payments. PayPal not only accepts your PayPal account, but also any major credit card. The first time that you make a payment using PayPal, your account will become blue.

  • Shipping

At Game Trader World, the sender of the game is always responsible for the shipping costs. The choice of the shipping method is selected by the user who creates the game listing. Once the payment is complete, the game(s) must be shipped out by the end of the next business day.

  • Cash Out

Your credit balance can be converted into cash at any time. We can pay you through PayPal or by check. There is a small cashing out fee to cover our costs from collecting the original payment.

  • User Reviews

At the end of each trade, both users have the opportunity to rate each other. The rating can be positive, neutral or negative and includes a brief message. The user ratings affect the rating bar in every user's profile and the rating is available for all users to see on their Profile Page. 75 Community Points are awarded for receiving a positive rating.
